FdS Haiti, a Haitian social-eco enterprise, works with Haitian communities providing local jobs, high quality products, and transforming local environments. FdS manufactures and implements energy-efficient, clean burning stoves and produces non-carbonized biomass briquettes out of recycled paper, cardboard, and other bio-waste. Charcoal destroys 9,000,000 tons of trees annually in Haiti with 0.5% aggregate efficiency, causing atmospheric pollution, deadly Household Air Pollution (HAP) from CO and PM2.5. FdS ultra-efficient biomass stoves are an environmentally beneficial alternative. FdS is now expanding into off-grid plastic recycling.
The Fuego del Sol team members were thrilled to learn that we were selected for the iF Design Social Impact Prize! Since we applied in October 2021, in addition to our contract to provide recycling services to the US Embassy in Haiti, we are now also the recycling services contractor for the United Nations mission in Haiti. The funds from the iF Design Prize will help us immensely since we are in the midst of a major fundraising push in order to purchase a collection vehicle to improve our recycling services. The funds from iF Design will put us a major step closer to purchasing that vehicle. We also plan to utilize the vehicle to move our indiginous seedlings from the nursery site to our planting sites throughout Haiti. The assistance from iF Design now will be help FdS Haiti for many years to come. Thank you so much!
