Kumamoto Castle Reconstruction Observation Path

Observation path

Kumamoto Castle was severely damaged in the Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016. This project is a temporary aerial observation walkway that will exist for only 20 years allowing people to see how the castle is being restored rather than closing the site to visitors. This project gives restoration work added value by turning it into a tourist attraction, and it presents a new approach to how contemporary architecture can co-exist within historical sites. We hope that this project will serve as a bridge between the 400-year history of Kumamoto Castle and the future.
