Soup & Socks (e.V.) is a German non-profit organisation, founded in December 2015. Since its foundation, the organisation has developed from providing selective emergency aid, to creating a community kitchen within Katsikas refugee camp, to implementing the long-term project Habibi.Works since 2016. The organisation's mission is to engage the refugee community, Greek host community and international maker community in a way that promotes self-reliance, -confidence and -development.

Design Statement

Soup & Socks e.V. began as an organisation providing short-term emergency assistance to people on the move in Greece. It has evolved to respond to a lack of approaches which actively involved members of conflict-affected communities as protagonists in their own lives. Through Habibi.Works, it has developed a participatory, makerspace model through which individuals are regarded at eye-level and empowered to use their existing know-how and unfold their full potential.
