Parkinson Pen - greater wellbeing for tremor patients
Product Design Concept
Most people with Parkinson’s Disease suffer from involuntary tremors in their hands, which affects their handwriting. The inability to write a shopping list, sign a document, or fill in a form leaves Parkinson’s patients even more dependent on outside help. Compenion is an innovative pen designed to help Parkinson’s patients write despite the tremors. The ergonomic form makes this pen much easier to grip, and because the weight is shifted to the ballpoint, the pen holds steady despite hand tremors. Compenion not only improves handwriting, it gives the user a much greater sense of autonomy and control.
This simple yet brilliantly executed design shows how small changes can make a big difference. The ability to write is about much more than motor function; it is a core aspect of a person's dignity and autonomy.
