ALKA - Cultivating Air

Microalgae cultivation for cleaner indoor air

ALKA is an air purifier with a difference. It not only filters and dehumidifies air, it also oxygenates interior spaces and cultivates rich fertilizer for houseplants. No need to suffer drowsiness and fatigue in stuffy rooms – this ingenious device creates an oxygen-rich home environment that is highly conducive to focused work. Thanks to the algae cultivated in the bottom chamber, ALKA inhales carbon dioxide and exhales oxygen. With periodic harvesting, its usable life can be extended indefinitely. After 2 weeks the algae are ready to be used as fertilizer.

JURY STATEMENT

This is a great example of product design that combines a simple user concept with a durable, aesthetic appearance and a well-thought-out, sustainable filter solution.
