The fashion industry is wasteful. While fashion companies have been investing in sustainable materials to reduce the environmental issue, the throwaway culture is left under-addressed. At present, many items are worn only seven to ten times before being tossed. We see an opportunity at the intersection of the rising upcycle fashion trend and expanded applications of Generative AI. UpStyle aims at building up digital infrastructures tailored to the fast fashion industry to deliver viable, scalable solutions to reuse, repair, and refurbish apparel to extend the longevity of fashion items and prevent them ending up in landfills underutilized.

Fast fashion is one of the most glaring examples of unsustainable production in the modern world.
