Passive Flood Warning System Device

FLOODIA is a water-powered flood warning system designed for vulnerable communities in flood-prone regions. It converts rising water into mechanical energy, driving a high-decibel whistle to alert residents even indoors, without electricity. By providing early warning and remaining operational during power outages, it enhances safety, protects lives, and offers a low-maintenance, durable solution. Its purely mechanical, self-contained design makes it unique.

JURY STATEMENT

This concept recognises that technology cannot always be relied upon, especially in remote or disadvantaged regions. The result is a low-tech solution that doesn't rely on internet connectivity or even electricity. An ingenious design that could save many lives.

WINNER STATEMENT

It is truly an honor to receive the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD. It still feels unreal to be recognized by one of the world’s three major design awards. Despite the challenges we faced while designing Pludia, our team is incredibly grateful and happy to see our efforts recognized.
