Senior Personal Mobility

JourneyWalker addresses two of the greatest challenges experienced by the elderly: impaired mobility and social isolation. Up to now, mobility aids for seniors consist either of traditional walkers or electric carts. Walkers are physically demanding and encourage poor posture, while electronic carts, while allowing elderly people greater mobility, undermine their ability to walk. The JourneyWalker customizes the user's gait to improve physical fitness while extending a senior's social activity radius.

JURY STATEMENT

Journey Walker innovates mobility among seniors by combining support and independence, enhancing fitness, and expanding the activity range. Ease of use and design can improve seniors' health and well-being by reducing isolation and enhancing mobility.

WINNER STATEMENT

We feel deeply honored to receive the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD for our new walking aid, the JourneyWalker. With this project, we hope to encourage other designers to think more about the needs of the elderly!
