Telephone

MUJI (Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd.)

The MUJI Second Phone has no base station, only one wire, requires no separate electricity point, and has limited features for basic communication. This functional simplification reduces the telephone to its most primitive form; it is simply a device for making and receiving calls. Whilst this approach appears to go against the trend of technological advancement, it is valid because the common condition is to have more than one telephone in the home. A second phone does not need excessive functionality to be useful. The product appears as a mono-bloc that rests on a horizontal surface. When picked up, the product takes on a reminiscent phone ergonomic, with speaker and microphone input. The engage button also acts as a microphone, and a cable strain is provided in the form of a suction cup.
