During the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee launched AIF as a trusted bridge for poverty alleviation in India through public health, education, livelihood, and leadership development with gender, social justice, inclusion, and climate adaptation as cross-cutting themes. AIF has raised more than $118 million and impacted some 12.9 million lives across 26 states of India. We did this with the help of 293 NGO partners.

Design Statement

MANSI equips villages with a trained community health worker (Sahiya) to provide home-based care, strengthening individual and family knowledge to promote positive health behaviors while building capacity for whole communities to provide peer-based care through an innovative surveillance system to create an innovative model for community- and home-based care. Through this system, timely referrals and emergency care during pregnancy ensure that mothers get qualified care when they most need it.

ABOUT US

Learning and Migration Program (LAMP), builds Learning Resource Centers (LRC) for children of migrant labors to provide education, life skills, and building agency to break the cycle of poverty. In the last 18 years, we empowered 940,566 children in 3,269 villages in 17 states.

LRC is established in school/community spaces to ensure remedial support for educational and quality learning opportunities through 32-week instructional plan. LRC have content in native language delivered by a youth using digital technology, learning kits and hands on projects.

Many of the migrant children never enter school while others receive a piecemeal education and continue to fall behind their peers, extending the cycle of intergenerational poverty. For sustainability, we build capacity of government school teachers, local leaders and parents.
