Cooperation with World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026

Based on the motto “Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a Better Life,” the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region was awarded the title “World Design Capital® 2026.” Our motto, “Let's design how we want to live,” is an invitation to actively shape our living space and our democracy.

World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026 is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing, and Rural Affairs and the Rhine-Main Cultural Fund (the “sponsors”) as part of the Hessian innovation promotion program in the “Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries” measure. The project is sponsored by the City of Frankfurt am Main, represented by the Department of Culture and Science and the Department of Economics, Law, and City Marketing.

The application for the World Design Capital® title is based on an initiative of the Werkbundakademie Darmstadt from 2014 to 2020. It is being implemented by Design FRM gGmbH, which was founded for this purpose.

The Goals of the Cooperation

With a year-long program of events, the region will present examples of fair, sustainable, and innovative design approaches that can improve quality of life and strengthen our democracy in 2026.

The aim of the collaborations within the WDC 2026 program is to involve institutions and organizations and to jointly develop and initiate content and projects on the theme of “design for democracy.” The content will be coordinated with WDC 2026. Implementation is the responsibility of the cooperation partners.

The cooperation partners intend to pursue the above-mentioned goal jointly within the framework of their cooperation. This agreement regulates the specific conditions of the cooperation and the obligations of the cooperation partners.
