Cooperation with World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026
We are a proud and official partner of the World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026. Based on the motto “Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a Better Life,” the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region was awarded the title “World Design Capital® 2026.” The region is being recognised for its commitment to using design to solve complex problems, and is presenting itself as an international centre for innovation and business that extends beyond the financial sector.
In keeping with this year's motto, 'Let's design Frankfurt RheinMain together', the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD 2026 ceremony on 11 June 2026 will be a highlight of the partnership. The projects that will be honoured at the event embody this idea, presenting concepts and visions for a better future.
Also on 11 June, the iF Design Foundation will present the Playbook "Designing Design Education - 75 Impulses", featuring contributions from 26 leading experts around the world, at the Museum of Applied Arts.
World Design Capital Frankfurt Rhine-Main 2026 is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport, Housing, and Rural Affairs and the Rhine-Main Cultural Fund (the “sponsors”) as part of the Hessian innovation promotion program in the “Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries” measure. The project is sponsored by the City of Frankfurt am Main, represented by the Department of Culture and Science and the Department of Economics, Law, and City Marketing.
With a year-long program of events, the region will present examples of fair, sustainable, and innovative design approaches that can improve quality of life and strengthen our democracy in 2026.
The aim of all collaborations within the WDC 2026 program is to involve institutions and organizations and to jointly develop and initiate content and projects on the theme of “design for democracy.”
