

Giovanni Quirici
SwitzerlandGiovanni Quirici (* 9 May 1978 in Bidogno (Switzerland); † 12 August 2011 on the north face of the Eiger) was a mountaineer and a biologist. After winning his title as the Swiss Junior Climbing Champion in 1996 and becoming a member of the national climbing team, the Mammut Pro Team, he traveled the globe to climb some of the highest rock faces in the world, also making some very impressive first ascents in a number of different countries. As a passionate climber and biologist, he took part in several scientific expeditions and shared his unique experiences in lectures and audio-visual presentations. On 12 August 2011, Giovanni Quirici fell to his death into the ropes on the "Le Chant Du Cygne" route on the north face of the Eiger.
