Qingyun Ma

Qingyun Ma founded his architect’s office, MADA s.p.a.m., in 1996. He graduated from Tsinghua University in Beijing with a Bachelor’s degree in the fields of civil engineering and architecture in 1988 and earned his Master’s in architecture at the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. In 1996, Qingyun already coordinated Rem Kohlhaas’s “Harvard Project on Cities”. In 2007, he was appointed as the Dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California. Among other things, he has worked as an expert for the Olympic Committee for the 2008 Winter Games in in Beijing, as a judge for the Rome Prize and for the Shanghai World Expo and has curated many different exhibitions, including “Made in China” in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. BusinessWeek calls Qingyun one of the world’s most influential designers. He is the owner of the first privately owned vineyard in China.
