Künstlerhaus – Meisterhaus – Meisterbau
In 1901 the exhibition of the artist colony Darmstadt on the Mathildenhöhe formed the world-wide first international, influential building exhibition on duration. Above all, Joseph Maria Olbrich and Peter Behrens set new impulses with their modern and future-oriented architecture and interior design, which were further developed in the Werkbund founded by them and later by the Bauhaus. In the post-war period, the ideas of the artists' colony Darmstadt again provided the inspiration for the reconstruction of the city as a design and architecture center based on several "master buildings" by leading architects such as Otto Bartning, Ernst Neufert and Max Taut.
