iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD 2023

The winners of this year's competition for young designers have been announced! From more than 7,000 concepts from 56 nations, the 76 best ideas were honored with the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD 2023. Nine groundbreaking solutions were also awarded a total of EUR 50,000 in prize money.

  • The competition categories correspond to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

  • Istanbul provided the perfect setting for the awards ceremony – with its cultural mix of European and Asian influences.

The response this year was enormous and very international: more than 7,000 student concepts from 56 nations were entered into the running for this year's iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD. After the first round of judging, the online preselection, 300 works qualified for the shortlist. After the final jury, which took place on 17 May 2023 in Berlin, they have now been determined, the 76 winners of the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD 2023! Nine groundbreaking concepts were honored with EUR 50,000 in prize money.

All award-winning young designers were celebrated over two days - the setting was Istanbul, the pulsating metropolis on the Bosporus. The official, festive awards ceremony took place on 22 June 2023, at the renowned ARTER art and design museum. There, the winners received their awards and prize money on the big stage from iF Design CEO Uwe Cremering: "Every year, we are fascinated by the inspiring power of the young design talents from all over the world, who strive with courage and heart and soul to make the world a little better with their ideas. We are grateful for the great commitment of our expert jury - and of course for the mostly long-standing loyalty and support of our renowned sponsors! Without them, this competition would not be possible.”

The competition categories are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (1 - 15):

No Poverty / Zero Hunger / Good Health and Well-being / Quality Education / Gender Equality / Clean Water and Sanitation / Affordable and Clean Energy / Decent Work and Economic Growth / Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure / Reduced Inequalities / Sustainable Cities and Communities / Responsible Consumption and Production / Climate Action / Life Below Water / Life on Land

The Evaluation Criteria

All nine prize money winners of the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD 2023 achieve above-average marks when answering the following questions:

  • Does it solve a problem?

  • Does it reflect or promote high moral-ethical standards?

  • Does it strengthen group relations?

  • Does it create a positive experience?

  • Does it make economic sense?

2023 by iF. Four student concepts were honored with the Karaca Design Prize 2023

Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest electronics companies and long-standing sponsor of the iF DESIGN STUDENT AWARD, has awarded a special prize to five student concepts as part of the international young talent design competition.
