Seven architecture and design events not to miss this autumn - from Helsinki to New York!

We are happy about summertime, but are also looking for fall - the perfect time for inspirational design weeks and architectural biennales! And this year's lineup is no exception. Whether you're looking for events in Europe or America, here are a few don't miss autumn events.

1. Helsinki Design Week 2024

6–15 September

No question about it, the largest design and architectural trade fair in the Nordics is the place to be in September. If you have the time, stop off at the Habitare trade fair or the Fiskars Village Art & Design Biennale.

2. Detroit Month of Design

1–30 September

As the first UNESCO City of Design in North America, something's brewing in Detroit. This month-long festival celebrates the creativity and rebirth of what once was the Midwest's premiere city. Check out Detroit's first 3D-printed home, made by robots that once built cars, or pay a visit to Cranbrook.

3. Zurich Design Weeks

12–29 September

Only in its third year, Zurich Design Weeks has already made a name for itself beyond Switzerland. This year's theme is "Good News", reason enough to visit Zurich this fall.

4. Architectural Bienniale Rotterdam 2024

29 June to 13 October

This biennale is dedicated to the "Nature of Hope", with a program full of bike tours through the Dutch countryside and a map of 26 Botanical Monuments across the city. Of course, the architectural capital of the Netherlands is always a feast for the eyes, with modern classics by Rem Kohlhaas and Piet Blom among others.

5. Talinn Architecture Biennale

10–13 October

This year's motto is "Resources for a Future", and it couldn't be more relevant. Construction is the most resource-intensive industry on earth, this biennale focuses on how we can build for coming generations using only the resources available.

6. Chicago Build Expo 2024

22–23 October

The largest construction and design show in the Midwest. From heavy equipment to public policy, there's something for every build-minded professional. Combine it with a tour of Carol Ross Barney's sublime River Walk and the skyscrapers of the Magnificent Mile, and finish it off with a stroll through Grant Park to take in the fall colors.

7. Archtober 2024

1–31 October

NYC-based Archtober is an aggregator for architecture-related events, tours, and exhibitions across the five boroughs and beyond. The platform even offers an interactive map (online and as an app), making it easy to find architectural highlights on your own.
