A Farewell to Sanheyuan

Reception center

There is a 99-year-old abandoned Sanheyuan (a traditional U-shaped courtyard house) on the site which will be demolished to make way for a new residential project. The designers were asked to create a temporary reception center. They aimed to keep the Sanheyuan as part of the spatial design experiment and create a farewell exhibition for the 99-year-old house. The design wraps around the back of the old house and forms a new courtyard with fluid corridor spaces closely aligned to the weathered walls and vegetation. The story between the new and the old in this project created many exciting perspectives for exploration.
