Funeral/death clothing

What if our last breath could be one of giving back? The answer to this question is Afterlife: a new wearable material that is completely biodegradable. It is created from waste products of the food industry, for example, orange juice and spinach, and is infused with flower seeds. As we pass on, the earth can still use our body to generate more life. By covering our body with the Afterlife clothing, which includes seeds, we turn an end into a beginning, creating a greater purpose after death. Shifting the definition of a cemetery into something less grim, for example, a forest or park, where the ones we loved, and their offspring, can walk, play and enjoy.

JURY STATEMENT

This project prompts people to think more deeply about the relationship between humans and the natural world. The value of this design concept lies not just in a gorgeous product, but even more in the symbolic appeal this project makes to a deeper sense of meaning. It causes us to think differently about the many urgent ecological problems facing humanity. We humans must learn to see ourselves as part of a much larger cycle of life and death. In recognizing our deep dependence on nature, we can better take responsibility for its care and protection.

WINNER STATEMENT

I am greatly honored and excited to be chosen to receive the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2020! Thank you, iF World Design Guide, for giving upcoming designers a platform to show their work.
