A Shelter System for Displaced People

Aiming to address the growing number of displaced and homeless people and refugees, ASPA offers a simple way to create a barrier that will protect people from the elements. The system allows for various configurations that can create safer and more comfortable living/sleeping environments in all weather conditions. By making use of locally available resources, ASPA can be packed down smaller than most insulating products, lowering the costs of transportation and increasing the speed of distribution. ASPA is also designed with recyclability in mind, which is unfortunately rare among emergency shelter products.

JURY STATEMENT

"This project offers high quality and broad application at a time of growing refugee crises around the world. Thanks to its low-cost, multipurpose design and recyclability, it is a smart solution to a very complex problem."

WINNER STATEMENT

We are very pleased to have contributed to a collection of projects that have the best intentions in supporting the UN SDGs, and showing the great potential that young designers and students have when given opportunities to work towards environmental and social sustainability.
