Walking Aid

AMBULO is a walking aid that allows children with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) to exercise safely and move independently in an indoor environment. Also known as brittle bone disease, OI is a group of genetic disorders that causes fragility in patients’ bones. OI patients may experience multiple bone fractures in their lifetime, largely limiting their freedom of mobility. Without exercise, OI sufferers would permanently weaken their muscles, causing further damage to their bodies. AMBULO solves this problem by allowing children with OI to walk and exercise independently and safely.

JURY STATEMENT

"This design has a stunning form and a very well executed functionality. Although this mobility aid was designed for young children who suffer from a rare disease, we can imagine a broader demographic of users for this great solution."

WINNER STATEMENT

We are genuinely grateful and delighted to receive this award. As design students, we must pay close attention to the well-being of minorities. From this project, we learned that further steps of improving the minority's healthcare situation have to be taken. We will continue to.
