Being unaware of their surroundings is a source of anxiety for people with visual impairments. Amelie is a digital companion system designed to increase visually impaired users' confidence. Existing solutions can be bulky, expensive, and rely on the user to ask the device what's in front of them. Amelie is a compact, affordable device that describes the current environment and informs the user about what is relevant for them in that moment. It is a natural extension of today's AI assistants, with human needs in mind.
