Wailing Wall against injustice

Amnesty International

Walls are a symbol of tyranny and oppression in the world. To denounce these abuses, Amnesty International transformed walls in public spaces into “Wailing Walls against injustice”. Installed images of barred doors and windows recreated prison cells, behind which eight real destinies were concealed. People encountering one of these objects in the city could use their smartphone to learn more about the person via QR code or URL. In addition, people were asked to leave their personal desires and hopes for justice on a virtual Wailing Wall. This way people became part of a large petition.

iF Gold Statement

This event has been realized by Amnesty International and the artist Dan Witz from New York. They transformed building facades and walls into wailing walls for justice by inserting pictures of prison cells and windows to them. A headline is not needed because the message is all there in the images, which are very strong and really powerful. The interactive elements invite a dialogue and you feel like you can instantly do something by using the digital interfaces.
