Cafe and Multi-purpose event hall

The AOI CELESTIE COFFEE ROASTERY, conceived as a social and community space, occupies a prominent corner site at a major intersection in front of a station in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The café occupies the first and second floors, with a bar on the third and a boccia court (a Paralympic sport similar to curling) in the basement. The site has a very high floor area ratio and is located on the main road in the city, with high-rise apartments on either side. In response to this dense urban context, the building has been designed around a central courtyard, with a roof so airy it appears to have gently fallen from the sky.
