Rural Baby Monitoring

About 7.8 million babies are born with low birth weight (under 2.5 kg) in India each year with a 20% mortality rate, mainly due to a lack of literacy, awareness, and poor accessibility to local hospitals. ASHA workers (Accredited Social Health Activists) are women from the rural communities who have basic training from the hospital regarding birth and childcare, but they lack the tools to measure vital signs. ASHA is a tool that helps these women to check the baby’s vitals easily, accurately and regularly in the home and to track the baby’s progress. This makes the work of the ASHAs more credible and reduces the child mortality rate.
