Avenue Co-Working

Co-Working Spaces for people with disability

People with profound and severe disability are categorically excluded from the workforce and the economy despite having the skills and abilities to make a contribution. Avenue is a network of four Co-Working Spaces in Sydney, Australia where people of all abilities are supported to do work tasks, socialise and develop their individual skills, regardless of their support needs. Avenue is an innovative alternative to traditional recreation-based services for people with disability. It re-designs 'work' to be inclusive, and breaks the assumption that people with profound disability cannot participate in the working world and in the economy.

JURY STATEMENT

An exemplary project for the individual, personal and appreciative integration of severely disabled people into work processes - which is usually not possible in this way. A great project, which should also find imitators in other rich countries to raise awareness of the needs of disabled people and to offer them richer employment opportunities with shares of real integration into social life.

WINNER STATEMENT

We are so grateful for iF's donation. Your support will help us empower our teams during work tasks, while connecting with our local communities, and building social relationships.
