BMW Group Design

The BMW i3 stands for a new approach to premium mobility. The first large-scale production car with an all-electric engine manufactured by BMW Group is tailored to the requirements of sustainable and emission-free mobility. With its revolutionary architecture and CRP passenger compartment, the BMW i3 weighs only 1,195 kg. The design is clear and minimalist. It makes attributes such as lightness, safety and efficiency tangible while integrating functions such as the airflow to create a self-contained, pioneering esthetic appearance.

iF Gold Statement

The BMW i3 has independent, future-orientated aesthetics and does not simply imitate vehicle models from design history. Conceptually, it is very coherent, especially with regards to how it ‘grew’ from the inside out – an interesting reinterpretation of ‘form follows function’. What the vehicle stands for is transposed in the design.
