BMW Group Design

With the BMW i8, the vision of a modern, sustainable sports car has become reality. This model combines combustion engine and electric engine to create a unique driving experience with extremely low fuel consumption and emission. The emotional design of this 2+2 represents pioneering technology and efficient sportiness. The surfaces and precise edges direct the airflow while creating the organic, flowing surface language that is unique to the BMW i8.

JURY STATEMENT

Good design moves - selected by Ronald Ihrig Efficient, sporty and clearly differentiated from earlier developments, it’s not about a successor in the program, but about a new sub-brand. With reference to earlier models, BMW i is not designed to win over buyers by comparing figures. With state-of-the-art technology for optimal energy transfer in the hybrid engine, BMW relies on an ultra-lightweight carbon body with organically flowing surfaces. No heavy materials in the interior either: instead consistent lightweight construction for optimal power transmission from only three cylinders and a lot of support from the electric motors.
