Braille Elevator

Escalator for visually impaired users

Qinhuangdao Aitaoqi Industrial Design Co., Ltd. Yanshan University

Escalators in public places pose many hazards, to the general public but especially to visually impaired people. Most accidents happen when a user stands between two steps or is not paying attention to an escalator's up and down direction. The design of this new Braille Elevator escalator effectively solves these problems and ensures that normal people and visually impaired people can use the escalator safely. Applying the idea of blind passage to escalators in public places, blind people can ascertain that they are in a safe position by the raised and lowered braille markings under their feet. The braille structure also alerts them about when to get on or off the escalator.
