Brumadinho Memorial

a Memorial

The Brumadinho Memorial transforms the scar of Brazil’s worst mining dam disaster into a space of remembrance, resilience and regeneration. Rooted at the site of the collapse, the architecture follows the terrain’s contour and invites a contemplative journey through 272 yellow ipê trees, one for each victim. Developed in collaboration with the victims’ families, the project integrates regenerative strategies such as photovoltaic energy, constructed wetland and green roof, and a design that gives voice to memory and shapes a dignified landmark of collective healing.
