The new BA Club World sleeper seat delivers more space, greater privacy and increased comfort without reducing seating capacity. The original BA Club World seat, designed by Tangerine, revolutionised the business class market with a fully flat bed and seats arranged in a forward and backward facing configuration. The seat is now 25% wider, legroom is increased by 4 inches and the new “Z bed” position (combination of footstool and seat format) provides the most natural reclined posture during flight. An innovative electronic privacy screen separates the seats, which appears simultaneously translucent to passengers or transparent to cabin crew.

JURY STATEMENT

Vehicle interiors - selected by Prof. Dr. Peter Vink The iF product design award 2008 was given to the British Airways Business Class Sleeper Seat. In those days horizontal flat beds were not common. Flat beds used to have the problem that passengers would slide out of their seats. This horizontally positioned flat bed is far more comfortable and it is interesting how the designers succeeded in achieving a very comfortable sitting position. Another wonderful feature is the height-adjustable screen between the seats that allows you to decide whether or not to contact the person next to you. Today, there are many products that include these innovative features.
