jazzwerkstatt – a series of CD covers embracing the art of handicraft. The graphics by Potsdam-based artists Olga Maslo and Chris Hinze are visually reified jazz. A vigorous font was “cut” especially for the typography, with the ample white space giving way. Nothing here is “canned”, learned by heart or mechanical. Improvisation is this design’s motto – the interaction of instruments, the creative response to collective creation. The “jazzwerkstatt” CD series by the “records” sales company thus appears in a consistent workshop-type outfit, constantly finding new forms: jazz translated into design.
