The Liyuan Theater is a traditional theater performing Chinese opera that attracts over a million tourists each year. Its new branding design, which employs hybrid motifs mixing Chinese characters and the iconic masks typical of Chinese opera, is intended to be readable both to Chinese and foreign tourists. The masks represent different emotions and characters, and are matched with varying colors and traditional patterns. The concept behind this design was to emphasize the tradition quality of Liyuan Theatre while also setting it apart from other private theaters in Beijing.
iF Gold Statement
This branding is stylish and contemporary in its appearance. It takes traditional characters and costumes from Chinese opera and illustrates them in a beautifully decorative style. The consistent illustration becomes visual language that enhances the culture of the Chinese opera.
