Contemporary Rug Art-Katalog
Catalogue
Jan Kath Design GmbH
The catalogue itself is as remarkable as the products, which it promotes. It portrays rugs, handmade in Nepal according to methods dating back centuries, which instead of the traditional pattern feature a highly modern design. This contrast between traditional handcraft and modern look was the inspiration behind the idea of photographing the extremely elegant rugs in entirely anomalous surroundings: the coalmines of the coking plant union in Essen. Incidentally, this concept caused enormous furore in the typically conservative rug industry and rapidly brought about international recognition and success for rug designer and producer Jan Kath.
