The D3100 is an entry-level camera for beginners. It combines the basic shooting functions of high-end models with the flexible operation common to all Nikon DSLR cameras. The new live view switch and dedicated movie-record button enable instant capture of still images or movies, using the camera monitor for framing. The D3100 is more compact and lightweight, and thanks to the rounding of the top corners, it appears even smaller and more elegant. Nikon hopes to expand the SLR market by promoting the enjoyment users will find with a Nikon DSLR camera.
