DANDAN - Application for Korean Drug Addicts
Health Application
South Korea has a serious drug problem. Despite having universal healthcare, the country struggles to support addicts and has a high recidivism rate. This social and financial burden is immense and increasing. Previous FDA-approved apps designed to help addicts recover have had little impact in Korea. ‘DANDAN’ was designed by Koreans for Koreans. It connects addicts with addiction testing and medical information, facilitates rehab meetings, and supports privacy-protected mentoring and support services.
There are many apps designed to help in addiction recovery. This one is intuitive, sensitive to local culture, helps create support communities, and effectively protects the identities of users and mentors. This is a great example of the need to adapt design solutions to local cultural and social conditions and expectations.
