Die Kinderbuchbrücke
Poster
Internationale Jugendbibliothek International Youth Library
The Jewish journalist Jella Lepman founded 1946, shortly after World War II, the first open access library in Germany, based on book donations from all over the world. She saw this as an opportunity to find new hope and values after the years of Nazi terror and to awaken a new understanding for other people and nations with books for children. The motive of the poster for the exhibition about the history of foundation of the IYL symbolises the historical term Luftbrücke. The parachute with the book links to the post-war period and the importance of books. Motive and typography visualise the concept of freedom of the IYL.
