Injection concept for diabetes

The idea behind this design was to disguise a medical device as a toy. The innovative injection set for child diabetics simplifies the use or handling of insulin therapy. »dipen« has a kind of reminder function without an app, which helps the children self-manage their treatment. It also helps parents or caregivers check whether the child has already injected themselves or not. By stamping colors on the child's body (warm colors for short-acting and cool colors for long-acting insulin), the puncture site can be marked immediately after injection. The stamp reminds the child of the next injection and at the same helps her space out the injection sites.

JURY STATEMENT

What a wonderful idea – a medical device disguised as a toy! This innovative injection set for young diabetics literally makes child's play of insulin therapy. The children can simply self-inject and, thanks to the colored stamps, even enjoy the process. Simple, helpful and fun – this design made us smile.

WINNER STATEMENT

I’m so delighted that »dipen« has been recognized by the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD 2021. It is an even greater honor to receive this award along with all the talented designers who also use design to help disadvantaged people or to solve social problems. I especially want to thank Prof. Birgit Weller for her support.
