The key feature that makes the Nokia wireless charging stand smart is the NFC Application Launch that works with Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 devices. Simply touching the phone to the stand launches a user-defined application such as desktop clock. Desired behavior can be set in an application on the phone UI.
