Mixed Use Building: B1 & 1F Retail, 2F Office

Shinmachi, west of Kumamoto Castle, once thrived with merchants and craftsmen, yet its buildings long turned their backs to the Tsuboi River. Echoes Shinmachi restores vitality by reorienting life to the riverside and blending memory with contemporary use. Rather than preservation alone, we reinterpreted townhouse forms into modern, sustainable spaces. Residents gain comfort and identity, while visitors experience living history. Unlike projects focused on tourism, ours embeds culture into daily life. By linking past and present, the project shows how architecture can revive community, reconnect people and place, and inspire regeneration.
