SURFACE's eco-friendly awnings operate solely on solar energy - without external electric power supply. It is made up of materials that contract and expand in response to heat: bi-metal and shape memory alloy. It expands in summer and becomes perpendicular to the incident angle of sun, which creates a great amount of shade and contracts in winter and takes a parallel level with the incident angle of sun - barely creating any shade. As a result, air-conditioning and heating energy is remarkably reduced. SURFACE's eco-friendly awnings aim to reduce energy use and pursue elegant esthetics.
