Edge to Stillness

Holiday Home

This retreat turns away from urban noise to embrace nature, creating a dialogue between architecture, body, and landscape — a place to reconnect human senses with the quiet pulse of the earth. In Niseko, most houses have small, closed windows and divided rooms to endure the severe winter, limiting air and connection. This project achieves a continuous, open interior through high insulation and airtight construction. High-performance timber windows bring dynamic openness, while the reinterpreted engawa creates a seamless threshold between inside and out, connecting daily life directly to the landscape.
