Eifelmuseum Mayen

New concept for permanent exhibtion

facts and fiction

The Eifel Museum in Mayen’s Genoveva castle is being given a new look. The museum’s permanent exhibition is being expanded into the slate gallery beneath the castle, home to the German Slate Mine. The main task was to reorganize the museum’s existing collection and present it in an exciting way for a wide variety of visitors. A glass information monolith forms the architectural and creative heart of the exhibition, encasing the lift and stair-well and serving as a walk-in display case, not to mention as an important medium of light for the exhibition. The way the exhibition is staged creates an impressive interplay between the old castle and contemporary design elements, including the interior redesign of the rooms, a new visitor orientation and color concept, the use of interactive and multimedia exhibits and, finally, the application of new technologies to communicate complex information in an easy-to-understand way. The design is rounded off by a comprehensive new CD/CI concept (logo development, exhibition graphics and advertising material) plus the Eifel Museum’s new website.
