Hundreds of millions of people in Africa either lack access to an electrical grid or experience frequent power shortages. The Hippo roller is an innovative solution to the problem of transporting water, and tens of thousands of these rollers are already in use in Africa. A typical round trip to fetch water takes more than 4 hours. This design improves on the Hippo roller by adding a small power dynamo to the outside. This allows the dynamo to generate enough electricity during the journey to fetch water, which can then be used to illuminate homes at night.
