Type system for digital screens

Elementar is a bitmap-based type system that provides typographic flexibility for digital screens. The system consists of three different modules: a generation system, a type system and a control palette. The generation system is a method for creating flexible bitmap type families using quantitative (height, character width and stroke width) and qualitative (styles, glyphs) parameters. The type system is a selection of bitmap fonts built with the generation system. These fonts can have different proportions, styles and glyphs, depending on the parameters used to build them. The control palette makes it possible to work interactively with the type system by manipulating each parameter of the generation system individually and visualizing the results in real-time. Together, the three modules enable new visual qualities for designing with screen fonts.
