An engawa is a type of flooring in traditional Japanese architecture that connects the interior with the exterior, and blurs the boundary yet defines spatial functions. With the engawa connecting space and blurring boundaries starting at the entrance, we distanced the foyer from the living room then created middle rooms that connect the living room, dining room, and the study without spatial interference. The definitive solid and void structural elements of the middle rooms provide storage, interface usage, and a new way for family interactions.
