Fossils

Concrete production method

Fossils is a new production method based on casting concrete into soft fabric molds. This method enriches the simple concrete, giving it a different, exciting language with organic, flowing surfaces, warm textures and freedom of form. It makes it possible to design concrete products with precise shapes, while other areas are created with random shapes by the concrete's weight. In these areas, the soft mold stretches, folds, and creates distortions, which pour life and character into the object. A series of casts into the same mold will lead to similar but not identical objects.

JURY STATEMENT

Design for living - selected by Charles O. Job Fossils is indeed mould-breaking on several levels. Firstly, wood and metal are no longer the only means of constructiing concrete formwork. Secondly, and as a consequence of this liberation, concrete is released from its age-old orthogonal formality and transformed into soft dreamy shapes.
