My work deals with the Savant Syndrome, a rare but spectacular condition, in which people with various developmental disabilities have astonishing islands of ability. These skills stand in stark contrast to their handicap and involve music, art, mathematics and language - in all cases, they are linked with phenomenal memory. Savants have a different perception of their environment. Their thinking processes and inner pictorial world are dominated by patterns rather than images. They are “pattern thinkers”. Five magazines, introducing a Savant and his/her ability, give a visual interpretation of what this individual perception may look like.
