Hand Guard
Inclusive Product Design
People with disabilities challenge designers to think beyond the obvious, finding ways to adapt everyday objects and functions to special needs. In this case, the designer has thought about how people with only a single available hand – either because of permanent disability or temporary incapacity – can carry out the function of hand-washing. The solution is simple yet highly effective, requiring no technical installation. The Hand Guard is molded in silicone, which is safe, environmentally friendly, has excellent haptics, and does not oxidize easily.
Hand Guard takes a thoughtful approach to the problem of handwashing for people who are disabled or temporarily incapacitated. This impressively ergonomic design prioritizes user dignity and hygiene through its comfortable, textured shape and focus on thorough cleaning. This design promotes inclusivity in relation to a fundamental daily task. Marvelous work!
