Hemi - Therapeutic toy

Rehabilitation toy

Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common physical disability in childhood. Hemiplegia, where half of the body has difficulty with voluntary movement, is the most common presentation of CP. Hemi is a therapeutic hybrid toy that motivates children with arm-hand motor disabilities to continue exercising at home as a complement to the child’s regular therapy sessions. It consists of physical controllers and a digital platform with therapeutic games. By playing different digital games, kids can improve their hand motor skills.

JURY STATEMENT

This careful and interactive design offers children with hemiplegia a dynamic and effective therapy option they can practice at home.

WINNER STATEMENT

I’m very honored to receive the iF DESIGN TALENT AWARD for my project Hemi. I would like to thank my tutors at Umeå Institute of Design and all the specialists and parents involved throughout the project, who provided me with valuable knowledge and guidance.
