Ghost fishing gear is the deadliest form of marine plastic as it unselectively catches wildlife, entangling marine life, subjecting them to a slow and painful death through exhaustion and suffocation. Hibāng collaborated with the plastic manufacturer to reproduce the nylon from the discarded fishing net. Our goal is to increase the recycling rate of discarded fishing nets by raising the value of the re-nylon material. Hibāng also built a circular system to ensure every eyewear will be recycled when its life ends. We encourage users to trade in the eyewear they don’t use anymore. We will tear it down and then reproduce the new material again.
